Hermina loves rich colors and soft fabrics, putting equal stock in comfort and fashion. She enjoys long, flowing dresses with ornate sleeves and cinched waists but understands her job, and her life in the weyr, more often require her to wear simpler clothing she doesn't mind mucking up. Blues and silvers are her favorite colors.
A nervous girl with a proud upbringing, Hermina tries her best to carry herself with airs of dignity, masking her anxiety with nervous ticks such as fiddling with her hair or fussily straightened her clothes.
Hermina is terrified of taking risks, with herself or others, to the point that she will shirk her duties and run if it looks like she may be placed in danger. She never leaves the weyrhold during thread fall and will back away from any physical altercation she witnesses. She constantly second guesses herself, worried for the quality of her work, and is wracked with indecision. Her nervousness has bred into various ticks, such as tugging at her hair until her scalp turns red. Hermina is jumpy and cautious as the best of times, easily startled and always on the look out for things to go 'boo' in dark corners.
With a privileged upbringing as the only legitimate child of Shigan's previous weyrwoman and weyrleader, it's no wonder Hermina's education stretched beyond that of most weyrbrats. She's well read and varied in her skills, with a love for learning that leads her to quench her thirst in any book she can barter for. She has a sharp mind, learn quickly, and keeps her wits about her. While capable of eloquence and verbosity she's humble in her intelligence, never flaunting it or using it to make other's feel lesser than herself. She has a dedication to learning all she can about a craft and applying her knowledge with practiced skill. She takes her responsibilities seriously.
While she's unwilling to start a confrontation herself, Hermina has a devious mind and isn't above manipulating others to fight her battles for her. She's obtusely vindictive, both for slights against herself and for the people she cares about, and she'll make certain justice is served.
Both parents were lost battling threadfall when Hermina was 16.
Prior to this, Hermina was eager to stand on the sand and impress a dragon of her own. Now she fears becoming a wingrider and is choked with anxiety every time she steps foot on the sands.
She switched her focus from candidate hopeful to apprentice healer.
Hermina and Dusana help their weyr through threadfall.
Story contains description of wounds.
Hermina and Dusana return from Istabitha with a single dragon: Hermina's brown Kalapatith. The trio drift apart because of Hermina's weyrling lessons and a search rider from a different reality of pern visits Shigan weyr.
