A scrupulous man with a penchant for judging character's that rivals even his own bond - F'der is a dedicated search rider who can be extremely discerning about the sort of candidates he brings back to Shigan. He's not the most prolific searcher, indeed while he spends a great deal of his time travelling Pern (and elsewhere, when required), he likely brings back the fewest potential dragon riders. But those he
does choose nearly always impress, and impress well. He has no qualms against crushing dreams if he thinks someone is lacking or undeserving. His honesty is unflinching, but as cruel as he can be, he's equally likely to extol an individual's virtues. When someone is worthy of praise, he's not stingy with it.
