Personality

Generally serene and quiet in temperament, Qaletaqa often keeps to himself to avoid the hustle and bustle of fellow teenagers. He likes people well enough, but he's simply not made out to be a social butterfly. He's even-tempered and patient to the point of seeming vacant or empty-headed. In reality, he's merely introspective, preferring to dwell on plans rather than actions. He's fascinated by the red star and astronomy in general. While he attends his candidacy lessons religiously, he's far more interested in learning about the stars than becoming a proper wing rider.

While he tends toward thoughtfulness rather than taking to arms, Qal is unwilling to allow any creature to suffer. He'll go out of his way to help anyone in pain and believes firmly in extending kindness to everyone, even his enemies. Qal's altruism has lead him to choose a vegetarian lifestyle, but he doesn't fault others (or dragons!) from eating meat. Qal is both empathetic and analytical. His interest in science and the stars is driven by a need to help his people.

Background

Qal was born in a harper's hall, a middle child among a dozen siblings. Being part of a large family had its own difficulties, but largely Qal enjoyed the constant companionship and chaos.

Due to his upbringing, Qal is very literate and has excellent penmanship. He enjoys reading and writing and keeps a notebook of his astronomical observations. He appreciates having grown up in a harper's hall with so many opportunities to learn the ways of the world.

He was searched by a Shigan Weyr bluerider when he was 15. His family was saddened to see him go, but Qal believes impressing a dragon is the best next step to his studies. He's fascinated by thread and the red star.
