Personality

Degenti is a fast-talking introvert; someone who prefers solitude over company, but thrives in social settings none-the-less, with an affable nature and comical way with words that puts people at ease in his presence. His wit is benevolent, but he'll use cutting words against a vocal bully when the need arises. Degenti is perceptive of people and his environment, something he developed to contend with his curiosity.

Degenti has an idealistic perception of the future. He dreams of a perfect world where places like the Refugium and other conservatories won't be needed. It's a big dream, but why not dream big? He's particularly fascinated with plants and their reproductive capabilities. He's field of study revolves around hardier methods of seed and pollen distribution.

History

This Niteshan went out into the Nexus simply for a love of travel. They have a long family history of offspring settling far, far away from their parents. How much farther can you get than the stars?

Degenti spent many years visiting various planets across the Nexus - sowing his wild oats, quite literally. He developed a fascination with plants for their adaptability.

He eventually  discovered the Refugium and studied under senior botonists to begin his trade. While the  Refugium is "home base" he spends a lot of time visiting planets and studying their local flora.

Abilities

FLOWERING BREEDING

Intermittently -- dependent on age, health, environment, and goodness knows what other factors -- Niteshan will flower: the gems along its back and sides will grow slightly more opaque over the course of a week or two, and then open up into great flowers. These will remain for another couple of weeks, give or take, before withering and falling off, the gems regrowing beneath. These flowers have both male and female sexes, regardless of the sex of the niteshan as a whole, though self-pollination is not possible.

FUNCTIONAL MAGIC

A wide-ranging ability that allows the user to do anything from enchanting an object to change temperature, to casting a protective spell, to creating a communication or light charm.

PHOTOSYNTHESIS

This is enabled by a combination of their gems (and wings, during childhood) having some photosynthesis capabilities, and their tails being able to draw water and nutrients from the ground around them.

ROOTED HIBERNATION

Niteshans have the ability to 'root' themselves through their translucent tails in good earth where they can get some sunshine and go into a state of hiberation. This can last indefinitely, if conditions are good, and is very much like an exceptionally deep sleep: they can be roused with significant ouside effort, but they will be groggy.

TELEPATHY

The ability to speak with only the mind.

TELEPORTATION

The ability to move objects instantly from place to place using only the mind.
