He's exceedingly powerful, and male Clairsentients are especially rare as it is. His necklace doesn't hold any particular element (fire, earth, water, etc) of power, but merely red happened to be a favored color of his, and so the orb changed to reflect that. It stores all of his mental 'runoff' power, the excess that simply cannot be contained within his form. When he was young he killed one of his siblings accidentally because he couldn't control his abilities and they forced out of him in powerful waves which tore the flesh from the inside out.
