Personality
Chipper and spunky, Selby seems quite out of place on the rustic colony of Sunfall, a child of wealth and political presence come quiet town boutique keeper. On the surface, Selby is the boutique's primary salesperson, but their true passion lies in their apprentice work. Selby is a fashionista at heart and overflows with clothing design ideas. They are a diligent and enthusiastic artist who takes critique well, making them an excellent student. When not working the storefront, Selby can be found wandering the fields and forests looking for inspiration for their next great idea. While they're not particularly savvy regarding hard labor, they won't leave someone struggling if they're called for help. It's a risk one takes when they traipse crops in search of ideas. As long as they don't get dirty doing it.Selby's greatest virtue is their patience, while they're worst vice is vanity. Selby always has time to explain the nitty gritty to anyone who needs a bit of help and never loses their cool with the slow paced life of Sunfall. They're kindly and considerate, attentive to their friends and customers alike. They're friendly, extroverted nature makes them well liked on Sunfall. Never-the-less, Selby is quite prideful and very particular about their appearance. If there's a way to help out without getting dirty, you'd best believe Selby is going to find it. They're always wearing the latest fashions and adore bright colors and patterns.
Sometimes, despite Selby's desire to help and never leave a person hanging, they have a habit of running off looking for help, rather than lending a hand themself.
History
Selby Van den Berg is station born, from a wealthy family heavily involved in commerce. They never had much opportunity to experience planets outside of vid-screens and distant orbital views.They were a middle-of-the-road child regarding academics and were often accused of being a daydreamer, lackadaisical toward their school work. Selby excelled at anything requiring artistic talent, though. They loved to draw and more importantly, they were obsessed with design. They're interest in the fashion world started at a young age.
Selby attended a fashion school on his home station but felt stagnant and crowded. They longed for a chance to experience grass between their toes and blue skies overhead. There were plenty metropolis-like planets Selby could move to, but they wanted something more... aesthetic. Rustic even.
Selby scanned info packets on burgeoning colonies until they saw Sunfall. Island life? Sounds fabulous! But the colony was so small it seemed they were mostly looking for hard-workers and rough hands. Selby wasn't really into the whole manual labor thing.
Selby attended a recruitment party where they ran into the Perez' family, the eldest of which as a talented seamstress and clothing designer; although her projects tended toward the practical rather than ostentatious. Selby expressed in apprenticing under her, to which she agreed.
Selby's family weren't particularly thrilled when they up and relocated to the tiny island colony, but Selby enjoys the quiet life where they have plenty of time to work on their art.
