Personality

Yennenga is cautiously reserved and has earned a reputation for being a bit of a recluse on Sunfall Isle. She's hesitant to warm up to people and often keeps to herself. Apart from her grandfather, she has few close friends on the colony and often wriggles out of grasp when someone tries to get to know her. She has a tumultuous past and is terrified of being hurt again, so keeping folks at a distance is the easiest way she can protect herself. Yennenga feels her actions are cowardly and she should be able to get over herself and befriend people, but it's just so hard. Her few attempts at real socializing often end in awkward, hasty good-byes as the urge to flee comes over her. Despite this, Yennenga truly loves her new home and neighbors and always makes time to help people out when they need it. Just don't expect her to stick around for a "thank-you beer" afterward.

Yennenga hates change. Moving to Sunfall was a last resort for her and it's taken months to find her groove here. She enjoys the comfort of familiarity and knowing what to expect. Surprises - good or bad - agitate her, forcing her even deeper into her shell. She takes her time to deliberate over major decisions and rarely acts with rashness. Yennenga likes having all her ducks in a row before she leaps into new territory. The option to stand for a dragon wasn't made lightly, but she fully believes having a bond will bring some balance and order to her life and help her grow her spine back.

Yennenga's trust and loyalty are hard-earned, but once given, she's infallible. She always keeps her word.

Background

Originally from Mwari station, Yennenga and her younger sister Aisha were raised by hard-working but often absent parents. Her maternal grandfather took over most of their care. Yennenga had a fairly ordinary childhood, was a middle-of-the-road student, and graduated with an uncertainty about her future. Her parents were both miners by trade and she considered following in their footsteps to get a good hold on a craft, but disliked the constantly travelling between Mwari Station and whatever colony was ripe with resources.

Yennenga and Aisha eventually decided to remain on Mwari Station together and look for a more localized craft that suited them both. They were very close with one another and determined to stay together. They'd always been each other's support and it would be heartbreaking to drift apart now.

Yennenga and Aisha found work in the maintenance sector, keeping Mwari station's comfort and life support systems running smoothly.

During this period, Yennenga met a young man named Terrowin, who she developed a cautious crush on. The two began dating and hit it off spectacularly. Yennenga was convinced she'd found the love of her life.

The sisters were offered a promotion and pay raise if they transferred to a large research vessel. Yennenga didn't want to leave Terrowin behind and Aisha agreed to decline the promotion as well. Only, she lied. A few months later Aisha informed Yennenga that she'd be taking a permanent post on the research vessel, leaving Yennenga behind on Mwari Station. Yennenga was heartbroken and betrayed that Aisha kept this from her for so long. By the time she found out about Aisha's transfer, it was too late to do anything about it.

At least she still had Terrowin.

The strain of losing her sister set Yennenga into a downward spiral that caused turbulence in her relationship with Terrowin. Eventually, the two broke up, further cementing Yennenga's hurt.

Shortly after the break-up, Yennenga's grandfather approached her with an opportunity for a quieter, more stable life on Sunfall. Yennenga was hesitant, but eventually agreed. Maybe getting away from Mwari station would help her heal.

Yennenga's grandfather was the mining operator on Sunfall and offered her a position in the mines. Yennenga completed her training for the new trade then set sail for her new life on Sunfall.
