Appearance

Average in height, build, and many other ways. She'd be one of the crowd if it weren't for the physical manifestations of her mixed heritage. She doesn't try to hide her difference, flaunting her horns and ears with pride.

Eden sports a large, ugly scar across her right cheek that she's self-conscious about. She often wears her hair in such a way to hide it. She acquired it in her early teen traversing dangerous scaffolding in her home station, taking a shortcut to make a grueling job a little quicker.

Personality

Closed-off - rebellious - nihilistic - comedic - accepting - distrustful

Life is crap, so laugh at it.

Eden coasts through life - she wants a decent amount of creature comforts and is happy putting forth mediocre effort to get them. Middle-of-the-road, keep your head down, sort of gal. If she doesn't stand out, lightning won't strike. She doesn't expect good things out of life and strives to keep her status quo. She runs on nihilism, wearing it like armor - she can't be hurt if she always expects the worst, right? Pessimism paints her worldview, but also gives her empathy for others. Life is hard enough, why make it harder for someone else? She doesn't give a damn about people's differences, weaknesses, or idiosyncrasies; she's happy to lend a hand or be a shoulder to cry on.

There's a limit to Eden's altruism and she'll fling her walls up the moment she thinks she's getting too close to someone. No more emotionally intimate relationships for her, thank-you, that's the primrose path to heart break. She's distrustful of others, and while she's willing to overlook someone's motives to help them out of a jam, she's not willing to open herself emotionally.

Eden skirts the line of rebelliousness. She'll chase pleasures over duty, but not quite often enough to get herself kicked out of The Heimdall's simulacrum of paradise. She enjoys a good laugh and prefers to face problems with a sense of humor. Laughter's a great shield as well as good medicine.

Background

  • Eden was born on a small, crowded space station, mainly used as a biway for mineral haulers. She only ever knew her (human) mother, but the ragtag population of aliens didn't make her budding horns and pointed ears stand out.

  • Life was difficult, resources were hard to come by, and Eden learned to live without luxuries. She and her mother scraped by, working hard for every credit. There were many days where Eden went to bed hungry, tired, and cold. Like many kids on the station, she dreamed of a better life.

  • In her teens, she fell in love with fellow human girl Seriin. The two of them made plans to run away from the dung heap station at the first opportunity.

  • Heimdall soldiers and recruitment officers stopped at the station between missions, sporting shiny uniforms and fistfuls of disposable cash. Eden and Seriin saw their opportunity, and although they were only 17 at the time, begged to be recruited. They were accepted, said goodbye to their families, and left for the Heimdall itself.

  • The shiny walls, regular access to food, and temperature controlled rooms made the Heimdall paradise for Eden and Seriin.

  • The training was a different issue. Eden excelled at it. Even when things were shit and she collapsed, sweaty and exhausted, each night, she was happy. Seriin found the work grueling and often humiliating - she abhorred the violence and wasn't sure she could pull a trigger to earn a buck. They argued frequently until Seriin left the Heimdall, returning to her family.

  • Eden felt abandoned and betrayed. Seriin had been her closest friend and lover for years - they ran away together, and now Eden was unmoored. She fell into depression, skipping drills and slipping off to docked stations whenever she could, nevermind the demerits and punishments she got afterwards. She was close to being kicked from the cadet program until her sergeant Seven took her aside and gave her a swift kick in the ass.

  • Yeah, shit sucks. Your girlfriend left you. But you've got a choice - get your shit together and be a good soldier, keep that air conditioned room and the extra pay or get kicked off at the next rock and scrape by doing any dirty job that comes your way.

  • Eden showed up bright and early for morning drill. She's always been a "middle of the road" soldier, and her nihilism hasn't abated, but she always gets her job done and does it with a laugh.
