Personality
Jinan loves to be loved and his happiest when he's surrounded by agreeable company. He's adamant that he's a lover, not a fighter, but the idea of impressing a dragon is so romantic he's absolutely willing to attend a thread fight or two to make his dreams happen. His ideal position would be arm candy to a powerful wingleader (man or woman, it's all the same to him), living in relative luxury inside a bustling weyr. Jinan has a gentle, pacifist nature and wears his heart on his sleeve. He's deeply empathetic and hates to see anyone in distress. Jinan is always willing to be a shoulder to cry on, even toward his enemies.Jinan is pragmatic and soft-spoken, generally easy to get along with and always friendly toward people no matter their walk in life. He has a knack for harmony and mediating between disgruntled weyrbrats. He's typically unbothered by conflict directed toward himself and is able to keep calm when tensions are high. Hurtful words don't bother Jinan for long - he's a carefree, jovial young man who works hard not to be an unhappy curmudgeon. Never-the-less, Jinan tends to be self-indulgent, even hedonistic at times, and is unintentionally gossipy. He doesn't always consider the repercussions of passing along information told to him in confidence.
History
⦿ Jinan is a holdborn child from one of the minor holds surrounding Shigan, one of the youngest children of the Lord Holder.
⦿ His childhood was comfortable and cushy without many obligations. He enjoyed a life of relative relaxation and luxury and lacked ambitions to go further. He attended his studies and was a middle-of-the-road child who fully intended to "marry up" to keep from having a laborious adulthood.
⦿ It was a complete shock to him when he was searched by one of Shigan Weyr's infamously curmudgeonly search riders. Jinan had never before considered the prospect of being a dragon rider - it seemed like an awful lot of work, and a health risk on top of it all. But the freelove lifestyle of a weyr appealed to Jinan and he decided to agree. He was already 16 by this point and only had a few years before he aged out of traditional bonding.
⦿ That opinion changed as soon as he was integrated into Shigan Weyr. Meeting the dragons was fascinating, absolutely life changing, and Jinan became enamored with the thought of bonding a dragon. A life long, unbreakable connection to another intelligent being? It was like something straight out of a fairytale. All the stories he'd heard about weyrfolk and dragons paled in comparison to being around the real thing.
⦿ Jinan has only attending one hatching so far. During egg touching he became enamored with one particular egg and showered it with affection, but when impressions came about the egg hatched into a big, brawny bronze with no interest in Jinan's whimsical romances. Jinan was saddened but undeterred. He's eager to attend another clutch!
