Planet Zar: Nexus

⦿ Rh'mel lectures his current batch of candidates on proper dragon care and basic emergency dragon healing, demonstrating advantageous pieces of technology picked up through interactions with the Nexus.

⦿ His classroom consists of a myriad of students, from 13 to recently-searched 18-year-olds hearing this information for the first time. A few of his students have already attended similar lectures but the weather is frightful and they'd rather be sitting here than doing chores with the drudges.

⦿ Uwriyel has heard this lesson a thousand times, but he remains focused on Rh'mel, jotting notes diligently. Not all the young candidates are literate and Uwriyel wasn't when he first came to Rh'mel as a student, but he pestered the residents harpers until they taught him his letters. He's a fastidious student but sometimes overbearing. If it were a more novel lesson, Rh'mel would expect him to be pestering the classroom with questions. Couldn't fault the kid his hunger for knowledge.

⦿ Moraa is a fresh face, newly searched. Someone who would most certainly prefer to be outside despite the bad weather, but she's never heard this particular lecture before. She watches Rh'mel carefully and seems genuinely intrigued by the tech, but she fidgets constantly.

⦿ Jinan is barely paying any attention at all - not out of malice, he's sat through this particular lecture once or twice - instead he's making googly eyes at one of the older, newly searched students, blushing whenever she looks his way. He's an incorrigible flirt but a sweet kid. Rh'mel suspects he'd make a decent dragon rider if he applied himself better. Not one of Rh'mel's best students, but probably one of his favorites. Which is often how it goes.

⦿ Rh'mel is demonstrating the application of a healing gel when someone knocks outside the door. It's weyrleader J'ram followed closely by ambassador Athalia. The students sit up straight and whisper excitedly to one another.

⦿ J'ram apologizes for interrupting Rh'mel's lesson, but he received a (hectically late) missive from some of their offworld contacts. There's a Pernese clutch being held off world with promising new bloodlines and a chance to improve relationships between Shigan and other entities in the Nexus. Athalia was purposefully pulled off her search for Shigan candidates to shuttle a few potential kids off to Kyanos weyr.

⦿ Rh'mel is ecstatic for his students. He ushers the kids to follow Athalia up to her weyr, where the lot of them are examined by Zisilth - Athalia's white dragon.

⦿ Zisilth chooses Uwriyel, Moraa, Jinan, and a few other potentials.

⦿ The kids rush off to pack their things and meet Athalia and her team of search riders before the dinner chime, excitement and trepidation running through their minds.
