Personality

Chipper, cheerful, and gregarious, Elwis always seeks out the good in people. He's endlessly forgiving, ever patient with mistakes, and loves watching other people blossom into themselves. He's highly empathetic, if rather naive. He hates seeing anyone down in the dumps and will do all within his power to lifts their spirits. On the flip side, he's often quite naive and doesn't realize when he's being mocked. He's fastidiously earnest in his own attempts at friend-making that snideness and sarcasm goes right over his head. Elwis is honest as often as he can be and believes other people act much the same as he does. He's genteel and caring. Peaceful if not entirely a pacifist.

Elwis enjoys luxury and rarely denies himself anything. His priorities can sometimes be askew and the decisions he makes aren't always the best long term investments. He loves to live lavishly and lives for new, exciting experiences. His hedonism is apt to get him in trouble more often than not but he's a slow learner. Despite this, he's infidelity patient and believes everyone deserves a robust education. He loves to teach and finds great joy in sharing his library with everyone he meets (or even reading aloud for them!)

Elwis believes strongly that emotional health is just important as physical health. He loves to nurture the people around him and tries to create a safe space for people to be open and honest.  A strictly no-judgement zone here! Elwis is delightfully optimistic and big-hearted, even if he's occasionally quite the ditz.

History

Born into a wealthy merchant family in Opine. Originally had several siblings but many died when they were children, leaving Elwis to be raised (mostly) as an only child. He was doted upon and pampered by his parents, but also had the weight of their business resting on his shoulders.

Elwis always wanted adventure. He loved travelling and was most happy on a ship, sailing trade routes along the coastline.

Elwis' mother passed away in his early adulthood. It was a devastating blow for him as he was particularly close to his mum. Her loss was the final push Elwis needed to uproot himself and start his own adventure.

He purchased a boat of his own to get out from under his father's rule and decided to expand their trading operation to other continents. Elwis gathered a disparate crew and made way for Vacillate.

Spells

MENDING (cantrip)

The ability to repair a break or tear in an object, as long as the break is no larger than 1 foot in any dimension.

SPARE THE DYING (cantrip)

The ability to temporarily stave off death in a mortally wounded individual, via touch. The spell stabilizes the target, giving them more time to be healed or removed from danger.

COMMAND (1st level spell)

The ability to exert one's will over another with a single word command. The effects of this command last only for the length of a single action and cannot be directly harmful to the target.

CREATE OR DESTROY WATER (1st level spell)

The ability to create or destroy up to 10 gallons of water.

CURE WOUNDS (1st level spell)

Via touch, the ability to physical wounds in a target.

GUIDING BOLT (1st level spell)

A flash of damaging light streak toward an opponent, causing damage and aiding allies' accuracy against the target.

HEROISM (1st level spell)

Via touch, the caster is able to imbue a target with a sense of bravery, making them immune to fear.

PURIFY FOOD & DRINK (1st level spell)

The ability to purify all food and drink within a 5 food sphere of all poisons and diseases.

SANCTUARY (1st level spell)

The ability to ward a target from attack.

CALM EMOTIONS (2nd level spell)

People within a 20 foot radius of the spell can no longer be charmed or frightened and become indifferent toward targets it was once hostile toward. The effects of this spell end if the target is harmed or if the target witnesses a friend being harmed.

MISTY STEP (2nd level spell)

The user surrounds themselves in mist and teleports up to 30 feet in any direction.

ZONE OF TRUTH (2nd level spell)

The ability to cast a magical zone that protects against deception. Until the spell ends, all creatures within the zone cannot speak a deliberate lie.
