Personality

Abomination. Half-breed. Unwanted. Unwelcome. Nathaniel has been ostracized all his life, beginning with his own father who abandoned him and his brother at infancy. He's a stranger wherever he goes and a life of being turned away has forced him to turn to introversion to protect himself. He's a nomad, throttling his loneliness with adventure and thrill-seeking. He does whatever he can to get by and has proven to be skilled at acquiring... difficult and dangerous items. The adrenaline rush he feels at endangering himself is unhealthy, but Nathaniel doesn't like to look too closely at his coping mechanisms. He despises the half of himself that isn't euclides, despite having been raised by his humanoid parent. Nathaniel is dogged in his pursuit of any item or spell that carries a hint of taming his vampirism or lycanthropy. The concept of having his own family is appealing (if he could ever find a mate on Anygh), but he refuses to pass his curse down to any potential offspring.

Like his father, Nathaniel is something of a hedonist. He enjoys luxuries and extravagance as if the trait was embedded in his genes. His roaming lifestyle doesn't often afford him the opportunity to indulge, but he doesn't pass up the chance when it's presented to him. He's anxious in social settings, careful to hide his nature as best he can, and rarely risks getting close to people in case he's found out. Despite this, he's truly lonely and wants companionship more than anything. 

History

The result of unplanned hybridization, Nathaniel doesn't fit in anywhere on Anygh. He's reviled by amuni for being a euclides, and unwelcome among most euclides for being partially human(oid)... tainted meat. He must drink the blood of his own kind to survive and goes through a monthly cycle of shapeshifting and personality change that makes him highly aggressive and unpredictable. He despises this part of himself and controls it through whatever magical means he can.

Born on the old world to a hybrid pairing of a euclides and a vampire/lycanthrope, Nathaniel and his brother Lexx were ostracized for their mixed heritage and abandoned by their euclides parent.

Of the brothers, Nathaniel was more afflicted with his vampire heritage, and Lexx more-so lycanthropy. They grew up on the outskirts of all societies. Eventually, Lexx found himself a mate and integrated with euclides, but Nathaniel remained alone. He used his shapeshifting to disguise himself as a human and lived precariously on the edge of cities and towns, attempting to keep a low profile despite his need to hunt and kill the people around him.

When the Abyss Born were taken to Anygh, Nathaniel wasn't certain he (and Lexx) would be taken at all. He wasn't sure he wanted to go. But every individual with an ounce of euclides blood was tracked down and shoved onto a ship.

Nathaniel had nowhere to escape to now. No humans to hide amongst.

Nathaniel lived a nomadic life of exile, uncertain where his brother or nephews and nieces ended up, uninterested in finding his father. He discovered the illegal trade of humans during his travels and finally found something that called to him. He could act as a fence, a delivery-man, of illegal goods. What started out as a simple trade in flesh eventually turned into a desire for more and more rare and valuable artifacts. Slow but sure, Nathaniel turned himself into a treasure seeker and dealer of illicit goods. Despite having a "place", Nathaniel remained a loner. He still had no place he truly belonged.

Meeting his father after so many years was bittersweet. Nathaniel was furious with him, but the pang of loneliness drove him to accept Jaseu's offer to return to Terra. Nathaniel considers his father's home a "base", but isn't comfortable enough in Terra to stay for long. He's happiest exploring the corners of Anygh and challenging himself to hunt down its rarest treasures.

Checkerboard Ball: The amalgamation of aliens, humans, and dragons is exciting for Nathaniel. He blends in for the first time in his life. The prospect of bonding a dragon, of being accepted for what he is, is exhilarating.

Jaseu can block creativity and motivation in up to 3 targets, the sensation lasts up to 24 hours.

SOUL STRAND MAGIC

The euclides were given the power of keeping 'soul strands,' which earned them their ranking system theme of puppeteers. All sentient beings have soul strands, and a euclides may temporarily extract this from an individual's conscious, rendering them immobile and helpless. The euclides may then use these soul strands to puppeteer their victims - giving the euclides full control over their bodies. The individual is conscious of this, and views it as an out of body experience. Higher ranking euclides may have control over several soul strands at a time, for longer periods, but all must eventually be given up.

On average, a soul strand can be held for up to 48 hours. Puppet Master and directors who have had adequate practice can hold them for much longer, but the time takes its toll on the user. The soul strand will be trying to "fight back" against the thief, causing headaches, dizziness, nausea, hallucinations, moments of confusion, and so forth. Too long, and permanent brain damage can occur. The mind needs a rest after taking over a soul strand, and is left raw and open for several hours once the strand has been returned. It is especially open to other forms of mind control and telepathy.

Physical proximity is required in order to obtain a soul strand. Higher ranking and well-practiced individuals do not need to physically touch those they're stealing from, but closeness is required. A soul strand is very rarely taken willingly, and will struggle against a euclide as hard as it can. Individuals weak of mind or temperament (timid, nervous individuals, for example) or those suffering from ill health are much easier to steal from than a healthy, confident individual.

FATHER

Nathaniel's father, absent for his entire childhood. He spent much of his youth feeling guilty and responsible for Jaseu's disappearance (father's folly marked beneath his eye). Nathaniel has since been reunited with Jaseu and wishes he didn't want his father's approval as much as he does. Nathaniel works for Jaseu periodically and uses Jaseu's business to fence the treasure's he finds.

Zarujse


NEPHEW

Nathaniel is protective of Zarujse and wants to have a good relationship with him. Nathaniel attempted to be active in the lives of all his nieces and nephews but lost track of most of them during the move to Anygh. He dotes on Zarujse and worries that Jaseu is treating him more like a business partner than a grandson.
