Planet Zar: Nexus

Mermay Frenzy & Festivities

Story

With things calming down at the Refugium and the danger of stolen eggs seemingly passed, Director Kutoth calls for a celebration. It's time to open the Refugium's doors to candidates and visitors. What better way to achieve this than by hosting a frenzy?

With spring around the corner for many Nexus worlds and several of the oceanic biodome egg-nannies eager for proper clutches again, the Refugium sends out a request for aquatic dragons in search of mates. A spectacular array of individuals answer the call and take temporary residence within the oceanic biodome. Their swims are performed like aquatic ballets, beautiful as any dance.

A pair of resident nekrats seizes the opportunity to complete their own mating swim, and soon the biodome is filled with clutches. Parents who wish to return to their homeworlds are welcome to do so, but those who want to remain until the hatching are given custom accommodations for their nests.

The actual number of eggs per nest is being kept secret and it's very possible that the Refugium's geneticists have aided with fertility treatments to increase clutch sizes where requested.

As the time for hatching nears, the Refugium ups the ante with their advertisements and prepares additional festivities to celebrate the frenzy.

Festivities

HYDROBALL TOURNAMENT

An underwater sport made for aquatic players. While most big games are played at Mwari station, the Refugium has set up an airlock viewing deck that descends deep beneath the surface of the oceanic biodome. Far away from the nests, several hydroball teams from around Zar, Mwari Station, and the Nexus face off for some friendly games. Proceeds collected from the hydroball games are donated to research and development on the Refugium. Players and audience members are welcome to sponsor eggs as well!

Hydroball coaches will also host classes and friendly games for non-professionals to try out the sport. Anyone with aquatic capabilities is welcome to attend!

Hydroball involves two teams of 7 similarly sized players. Several colored hoops are set up on both sides of the field at different heights and angles. Each team tries to score points against the other by swimming the ball through the opposite team's hoops. The game is played in three rounds and the highest scoring team wins.

BEACH ACTIVITIES

Several of these clutches are amphibious in nature, meaning the offspring can function on land and in water. Knowing this, the Refugium has prepared for more land-locked candidates and set up some beach side festivities. Normally the oceanic biodome is set to have only a few rocky "coastal" areas, but some sections have been diverted to beautiful warm beaches.

Within a few days of the predicted hatching, the Refugium's brand new beach will be hosting volleyball games, a sandcastle building contest, and late night fire poi performers.

Zeskod's Fancy Snack Shack and Sushi Bar will be open for business throughout the event, offering a wide variety of beach food from across many cultures.

Search Riders

Hosting its first frenzy has the Refugium in a flurry. Several aquatic rider pairs have volunteered as temporary search riders to help fill the stands. The Refugium's regular search riders will be working as usual as well.

Licinia and Revent: They'll be busy with hydroball as the hatching draws nearer, but in the early stages of searching the outgoing Licinia and her playful nekrat bond have offered their services teleporting to aquatic places to collect candidates for the frenzy. Revent is also a clutch sire for this event, so he's doubly invested in finding excellent candidates.

Lubomir and Coerulia: The romantic Lubomir and playful princess Coerulia are doing their part, although their travel is bound to a ship as neither is capable of teleportation. Being a marine biologist, Lubomir is likely to spout off interesting scientific facts about the species clutching at the frenzy... which will drive his endlessly impatient bond batty. Both of them are almost entirely aquatic and will be searching for water-bound candidates.

Ossia and Mbisi: Talkative and gregarious Ossia will be commandeering a small ship with her young bond Mbisi to find some amphibious candidates... and likely to collect some microbe samples for testing in the labs later.

Suka and Okahan: The outgoing Suka and supportive Okahan are taking their first steps away from the Refugium since the luungs arrived there. Suka is eager to explore the Nexus and her shy bond is being brought along for the ride. They're able to search underwater and on land and are looking for a variety of suitable candidates.
