Personality

Aulfed is the epitome of a scholar; he's always in the pursuit of knowledge and spends most of his time with his nose in a book, a trait he developed early in childhood. Easily distracted by the promise of information, Aulfed can be difficult to keep on task and he has trouble putting his own interests aside for the betterment of his party. He never passes up an opportunity to amass another book for his collection and carries around a precious Bag of Holding to manage his growing library. His speech is eloquent but erudite. He has a horrible tendency of showing off around the sort of people that are impressed by polysyllabic words, but knows how to speak plainly when it's more important to be understood than admired.

Aulfed is honest and believes strongly in community and managing goals together. Despite his bookworm nature, he's truly a social creature that thrives around others - he just likes to do it quietly. He loves sharing information, learning together, and brainstorming with his party. He's isn't immune to decadence and merrymaking.

Aulfed does carry some guilt with himself - he feels responsible for the destruction of a great library. He clings to the hope that he can be redeemed.

Background

Aulfed was born into a close-knit extended family of traveling merchants. He was particularly close to his younger brother Karash, but enjoyed the camaraderie of a large troupe. He had many friends and a happy childhood, and wears the marks of his clan proudly even as he's left to pursue a different path.

Aulfed was always interested in reading and learning. Originally, he parents had hoped he'd become an excellent ledgerkeeper for the clan, but when Aulfed began to show some promise in magic, they knew he'd be off to greater pursuits. His parents were supportive when Aulfed decided to leave the clan to practice wizardry and he keeps in contact with them regularly.

A distant uncle was an accomplished wizard, and swept Aulfed off to school to expand his talents. Aulfed spent many years learning spellwork, living within the walls of one of Opine's great libraries. Occasionally, wizards from the school were asked to join adventuring parties to lend magical aid. Aulfed was on one such quest when disaster struck the library. A great firebreathing wyrm attacked his school, destroying the building and much of the collection of books. Aulfed returned to rubble and the deaths of many students and teachers. Aulfed believes he could have helped prevent this - or saved lives (and books) if he'd been at the school when the attack occurred.

With the school dissolved and a heart full of guilt, Aulfed set out to find a new adventuring party in hopes of tracking down the Wyrm and replacing the books lost in the fire.
